March

Good morning ILWOCP,
Can you believe March is here and hopefully the worst part of our snowy season is behind us.

I hope by now that you have had a chance to view all the classes that will be available at our school this October.  If you have had a chance to look, you can see that we have some wonderful teachers lined up with a selection of classes that will please all of us.  I have had some reservations for some of the classes already.  So, if you are interested in a particular class please let me know soon.  Each class will accommodate ten to twelve students on a first come first serve.

In a few weeks each guild president will be receiving a new membership packet with dues information.  Also we will be sending the new roster books with the membership packet.  If there are any corrections for each guild please e-mail them to me.  I know for sure that my guild will have at least five changes as some of our members (including myself) will be having a new internet provider.

Hopefully in the next few weeks we will get our flyer together for the school.  Each guild president will receive the flyers with all the necessary information for that guilds members.

I would like to ask again for information to share on what each guild is doing this year.  I have shared my guilds activities with you.  Why not share yours?

Last year we posted some studies for all of us to share.  At that time I asked for anyone else to share a study or technique and to this date no one has responded.  The website could be a wonderful source for all of us to share and since we all pay for it, why don't we all use it?  Think about it.

Until Next Month

January

January 2008, a new year and a new agenda for the Illinois WOCP.  This October we will be hosting an excellent school at the Ashland House in Morton, Illinois.  We have some first rate teachers coming and a very diverse list of classes to further our education in the art of porcelain painting.  This years school will offer classes for everyone from the beginner to the most advanced artist.  We are currently working on gathering class information along with photos for each class to put on the web site in the next few weeks. (Click on 2008 School)

As you know, this is my second year as your state president.  I have met and spoken to so many wonderful members this past year.  Also, we all know our membership is growing smaller and smaller.  I truly believe we must promote our porcelain art in any way we can.  I am a member of a large guild (Illinois Valley Porcelain Art Guild) which enables us to participate in many activities during the year to encourage and promote our art.  I would like to share some of Illinois Valley Porcelain Art Guilds' activities during a year and in turn I would like to hear how your guild promotes porcelain art in your area during the year.  IVPAG meets the first Wednesday of each month with the exception of July and August.  For the past several years we have participated in the Heart of Illinois Fair.  The guild members usually have a lovely display at the Peoria Library and this year we will also have a display at the new library in Washington.  We have a two day show each year at Lakeview Museum in Peoria.  During the show we have door prizes, raffle pieces and our big raffle is usually on a Christmas tree or Wreaths all completed with hand painted ornaments.  Yes, our guild has painted many, many ornaments for our local show and the state convention.  Each monthly meeting concludes with a demo or a sharing of ideas and interests.

A few years back the Spoon River China Art Guild invited us to one of their meetings.  They had some beautiful painted gifts for us along with a few fun demos and lunch.  We enjoyed the day and decided to invite them to our guild the next year.  Now it has become kind of a tradition getting together with the Spoon River Guild.  We go there one year and they come to our guild the next.  It has been fun getting to know the Spoon River members and I would encourage any guild to get involved with a nearby guild.

Recently guild members gathered at the home of Jean Fehl to paint and donate mugs for breast cancer.

I am a breast cancer survivor.  Painting and giving this mug to those diagnosed with breast cancer is my way of giving back what has been given to me.
Would you like to do that in your area too?  I think china painters/porcelain artists can do the same thing.  If you would like to help, order some mugs, paint them and donate to your local cancer care center or hospital.
Sign the mugs and write hand painted on the bottom. Enclose a card telling about our art.  We will help people know what we do, and get people involved in our wonderful art while giving love.  Thanks, Jane Bowen

This is some of Illinois Valley Porcelain Art Guilds' activities for the past year.  How about sharing your guilds plans for this year?

Until Next Month,
